Years of growing...

I often see the quote: "The only photographer you should compare yourself to is yourself". A couple of years ago, I wrote a post about how I got started into photography, you can read it here. Though at the time I felt like I had been in it for a lifetime, It amazes me how many opportunities I've been given to grow since.

Three years ago next month, my sister-in-law asked me to take maternity photos for her. She was due with my niece within just a few weeks, and though I was thrilled, I'll admit I was just a little terrified to take them. The perfectionist it me will often keep me from trying things I'm not 100% sure I can achieve. It's amazing how the world of photography will take me out of my comfort zone (in a good way)!

I was happy with the outcome of their photos. They were by no means perfect, but I proved to myself that day I could do it. Here are a few...

A few weeks later, my beautiful niece was born. Once again, thrilled, but even more nervous. Newborn photography... it's hard to even describe. For the baby lover in me, this is something I dreamed of doing. On this day, the dream became a touch of reality...

Flash forward a few years....remember the quote? "The only photographer you should compare yourself to is yourself". Same family... new baby sister...

What have I've learned? My love for color outshines how I {thought} I felt about black & white back then! :)

I've had more newborn sessions than I can count between the births of my 2 nieces. I have only fallen in love more as the years go by. I could do this every.single.day.

To my family, friends, and clients (who become friends!). Thank you for supporting me, trusting me with your memories, and watching me grow. I have lots of growing to do, and I'm excited to see what the future holds!

Coming soon...

I've always said I could not have a desk job. Though a lot of my behind the scenes work happens at a desk (or sitting on my couch instead), I am too much of a people person to not have some type of interaction. One of my favorite things about being a photographer is getting to meet so many new people!

I had the pleasure of working with a family yesterday who is waiting on the arrival of their 3rd child...but 1st baby girl. :) Their boys are so incredibly sweet, I can imagine how protective they will grow to be of their baby sister. She is one lucky girl!

I am truly looking forward to meeting her this summer. Take a peek...

My little buddy...

Do you know the moment when you make that grand list...the one with all the things you are ::going:: to accomplish & how excited you are to have a plan (even if it's not something you really want to do...)? Do you also know the moment where the plan gets thrown out the window because life happens? Yeah, that's the story of my week. :o)

I had my list: edit sessions, meet with clients, clean the house, go grocery shopping...not necessarily in that order, but a list just the same. Instead, life happened, there was a need, and I got a little visitor.

Cute as a button, sweet as can be, and a complete distraction!! :o) Editing sessions got put on hold, my very sweet & understanding clients waited patiently to be met, the house didn't get cleaned, and grocery shopping was accomplished while she carried my list in her mouth. haha

But though things didn't go exactly as planned, I was able to make memories with my niece. Memories that I may cherish more than she remembers, but important ones just the same.

So today as I am catching up on editing, e-mailing & scheduling with clients, & washing dishes at 11:30 P.M. I know that it's worth it.

Because I have a few more days with her, and tomorrow morning I get to hear her talking sweetly in her bed, and will be greeted with a "hi" and very girly giggles and smiles.

And we will begin another adventure...(and hopefully get things accomplished along the way!)

Birthday blessings...

In two days, the birthday festivities I've been surrounded with will conclude. Within 13 days, there have been 9 bithday celebrations, and a whole lot of cake! Come July 2nd, I can usually go a month or more without being interested in another bite. :o)

Well, today was my sister-in-law's birthday, and since I finally managed to dump my memory card from this past week, I thought I would give her a gimps of her kiddos. I am finally catching up on our last birthday boom with pictures. 3 more to go & I'm all caught up...

Take a peek...

Happy Birthday Laura! Hope you enjoy. :o)

34 weeks & counting...

After being rained out of our previously scheduled session on Monday, I was thrilled to see what beautiful weather we were blessed with today for our "rain check" maternity session!

Here's a little sneak peek of the parents-to-be. :o)

I'm looking forward to meeting their bundle of joy. :o)

A picture is worth...

a thousand words.

Beautiful, wonderful, crazy, fun, awesome, rare, priceless, memory, unique, interesting, amusing, exhausting, overheated, and amazing.

All words I would use to describe these photos. My Mom requested a family photo for Mother's Day this year. This is NO easy task! So though we are a week late, we have fulfilled her request.

With this result...

I am a VERY happy photographer today! :o)

6 months...

Yet another 3 months have gone by! Caleb was back in the studio for his 6 month session today. His Mama needs to quit blinking, because a repeat of 6 months and we'll be at his first birthday. He needs to slow down. :o)

I had so much fun capturing these images, he has a smile that literally melts your heart!

Take a look...

Love those eyes!

Happy New Year...

Happy New Year everyone! 2011 was an exceptionally busy, but oh so wonderful year for me! My family grew by 2 nieces, I moved into my new home, and officially launched my business! God is good. :o)

My first change for 2012 is I now have an online ordering system! It's combined with a website and you can check it out here. If anyone is interested in reordering, let me know and I will upload your album for viewing. I am pretty excited about this! Now out of state grandparents & relatives will be able to order with ease. :o)

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!

Enjoy a few photos from my end of the year sessions...

My little professionals...

It's only one photo so far, but I just had to share! My sister & I have been trying to coordinate schedules for literally 2 months now. We finally set a date/time...I was going to meet her after Church let out. Come to find out, she made plans with her in-laws. We've all been so busy lately that they hadn't seen each other in a while. So cancel? Of course not! I've made little professionals out of her children...but they're even more professional than I thought! :o)

We had about...umm...15 minutes? Yes, and that was all we needed. Her boys stood there and smiled perfectly, then shouted "next" (insert first, middle, last names here shouted by the 3 year old), to get their photos taken. It was perfection.

Family photos in 15 minutes anyone? Yes please!

Loves these kiddos! :o)

Mini models in October...

Wow, October has come & gone by so quickly! I got to celebrate 2 new lives last month, as well as see some old friends, and made new ones along the way. :o)

Before I get to my sneak peek, I wanted to give a quick update: If you, or someone you know is thinking of having their Christmas photos taken, my deadline for guaranteed Christmas delivery is November 20th, 2011. All sessions that take place after this date will have a rush fee added onto the session fee if needed for Christmas. Please know that I do not have many sessions available between now & the 20th, so e-mail me at kbphotography10@yahoo.com to reserve your spot. Exceptions will be made for newborns only.

Moving right along! :o) I had 6 families help me out by bringing their little ones to my studio to try out some new props. I must say, I enjoyed this tremendously! It was so much fun having these cute faces here & being able to use most of the props I've recently collected (and by collected, I mean they're taking over my house! haha).
So here they are...enjoy!

Until next time... :o)
